OTA Institute: DOT Hazardous Materials Training

The OTA is hosting a DOT Hazardous Materials Training on Wednesday, May 4 from 8:30am – 4:00pm at their headquarters in Westerville.

Mike Alston, owner of Transportation Compliance Associates, will focus on the proper handling and transport of hazardous material. This comprehensive training will include a deep dive into the following areas:

  • Hazardous Material Regulations;
  • training requirements for employers and employees;
  • packaging, marking and labeling;
  • shipping documents;
  • emergency response information;
  • placarding requirements; and
  • understanding security threats.

The price to attend this training is $199 for OTA members and $299 for non-members – the event will also include a continental breakfast and lunch. Course material includes the current Emergency Response Handbook (ERG) and the current DOT 17 chart. Attendees who are successful on a short written exam will receive a certification through email.

About the Trainer:
Mike Alston, MBA, CHMM, CDGP and owner of Transportation Compliance Associates, Inc., is a highly accomplished transportation operations and compliance manager with over 30 years of experience in regulatory affair and supply chain management; including: logistics & distribution, transportation auditing, transloading & terminal operations, as well as barge, rail, motor carrier safety and operating practices. His special expertise is in the handling, safety, security and regulatory compliance of hazardous materials, and he provides comprehensive program management and consultation services for DOT, IATA, IMDG, USCG, EPA, OSHA, and TDG regulations to his clients.

Mike spent his career with Sunoco, Inc. and its predecessor, Aristech Chemical Co. More recently Mike was Global Hazmat Manager for Westinghouse Nuclear. He developed and implemented regulatory training programs for DOT, IATA, TDG-Canada, USCG-PIC, and Hazardous Waste Manifesting, as well as audit programs to qualify motor carriers, bulk liquid terminals, transportation cleaning facilities and railcar repair facilities to ensure performance and compliance with regulations and company standards.

  • You will receive a 75% refund if you cancel more than 3 days before the course.
  • You will receive no refund if you cancel less than 3 days before the course.
