Driver Qualification Files and What You Need to Know
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regularly updates and changes its regulations, including the rules for qualifying commercial motor vehicle drivers.
During the August OTSC meeting on Thursday, August 8, we will cover the general requirements for who needs a Driver Qualification (DQ) File, the DQ file checklist, record-keeping requirements, and best practices for maintaining compliant DQ Files. We will also discuss how proper DQ File management can help ease the stress of risk exposure and the impression a compliant file has on your insurance broker.

About the Speaker:Anne-Marie Naples is a Senior Safety Consultant with Cottingham & Butler’s, Safety Management Services Company (SMSC). She started her career in transportation safety in 1991, when she was hired as Safety Director for a 40-truck fleet in Youngstown, Ohio. As the company rapidly grew to over 500 employees, in 2003, she became the Risk Manager and assumed the role of Administrator of the company’s Ohio Self-Insured Worker’s Compensation Program. She also managed claims reported to Unemployment Insurance, Auto-Liability, Physical Damage, and Cargo policies, working directly with third-party administrators and adjusters to mitigate damages. It was during this period that she developed the company’s fleet training program. In 2013, she became the Corporate Director of Safety for the same carrier, overseeing DOT and OSHA compliance for over 800 employees across 5 states. She joined SMSC in 2022.
Anne-Marie is committed to helping motor carriers prioritize safety and mitigate potential risks and hazards. “First and foremost, is making sure our (clients’) drivers make it home safe.” Her goal is to assist her clients in developing a safe and healthy work environment while maintaining DOT compliance. Her hands-on approach to reducing the severity and frequency of work-related injuries and motor vehicle accidents focuses on data analysis, effective coaching, employee training, policy development, peer mentorship, and team building.
