Truck Accident Reconstruction and Technology
Don’t miss the October 10 meeting of the Ohio Trucking Safety Council when we welcome Dr. Al Dunn with S-E-A Limited to discuss the latest advancements in truck accident reconstruction.
Dr. Dunn will guide us through the complexities of truck accident reconstruction, highlighting cutting-edge technology and detailed data analysis. Key topics will include:
- Police investigation methods: commercial vehicle inspections, traffic crash reports, and on-board video utilization.
- Evidence collection: tire marks, truck brakes, seatbelts, lighting, and data from Heavy Truck Engine Control Modules (ECMs) and passenger cars.
- Comprehensive analysis: speed calculations, momentum and energy conservation, vehicle crush measurements, simulations, and biomechanical engineering applications.
Schedule:
11:15AM - Registration
11:30AM - Lunch
12:15PM - Program Begins
* Note that each registered attendee will receive lunch
About the Speaker:
For over 17 years, Dr. Ashley (Al) Dunn has worked from SEA’s Columbus office as a Senior Mechanical Engineer. Al’s commercial vehicle expertise includes commercial vehicle accident reconstruction, braking systems, braking and stability evaluations (via testing and computer modeling), and ABS system performance. Al is experienced in forensic accident reconstruction, vehicle dynamics, and component failure analyses for motorcycles, passenger cars, and commercial vehicles. Al is licensed to practice engineering in 28 states.
Dr. Dunn spent six years at the Vehicle Research and Test Center (VRTC) of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). NHTSA sponsored Dr. Dunn’s Ph.D. research in Mechanical Engineering (received from The Ohio State University in 2003), focusing on vehicle dynamics. Prior to attending the OSU Graduate School, Al worked for ten years at Michelin Tire’s Research and Development facility as a test engineer/test driver and product development engineer. Al received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina State University (NCSU) in 1986.
Dr. Dunn’s other relevant interests and experiences include 10 years in racing and on-track driving instruction. Al has ridden motorcycles (on-road and off- road) since childhood, and currently rides a 2019 BMW R 1250 RT sport-touring motorcycle. Al has been a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers since 1997.
