Workers’ Compensation Fraud: What You Need to Know
Join us for an in-depth session on the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation system on Thursday, September 12, during the monthly OTSC meeting. We'll explore the Special Investigations Department and share real-life examples of fraud by injured workers, providers, and employers. Learn how BWC teams work to deter, detect, investigate, and prosecute Workers' Compensation Fraud.
Course Objectives:
- Understand the various teams within the Special Investigations Department.
- Review real-life cases of Workers' Compensation Fraud.
- Learn the evidence needed for prosecution under ORC 2913.48.

About the Speakers:
Scott Lape has been with the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation’s Special Investigations Department for the past 25 years with the last 16 years in a supervisory position. For the last 13 years Scott has served as the Special Agent in Charge of the Southeast region claimant fraud team who is tasked with investigating fraud committed by claimants in the Columbus, Cambridge and Portsmouth area. Scott previously worked as a Special Agent with the BWC Special Investigations Department. Scott holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology from The Ohio State University.
Joe DePolo has over 27 years of experience investigating fraudulent activity and enforcing regulatory compliance in government programs. The majority of Joe’s career has been spent with the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation Special Investigations Department, with stints at the Ohio Ethics Commission and State Medical Board along the way. Currently, he is the Assistant Supervisory Agent in Charge for an Southeast region claimant team for BWC. This unit is tasked with identifying and investigating claimant fraud within the Ohio Workers’ Compensation System. Joe has a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Central Michigan University.

- You will receive a 75% refund if you cancel more than 3 days before the event.
- You will receive no refund if you cancel less than 3 days before the event.
- No shows will be responsible to pay 100% of the registration fee.
