OTA Institute: Accident Investigation Training
Wednesday, April 16, 2025 (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM) (EDT)
Description
The OTA is hosting an Accident Investigation Training on Wednesday, April 16, at the Medallion Club in Westerville. Led by Dan Katt of Rumpke Waste & Recycling, this full-day training will teach participants how to properly investigate and document vehicular accidents.
Topics include collecting, preserving, and evaluating physical evidence. A “hands-on” mock crash in the parking lot will allow participants to practice scene measurements, create field sketches, and photograph the scene to document its condition accurately. Additional areas of focus include post-accident drug/alcohol testing, crash reconstruction, legal considerations such as attorney/client privilege, and preparation for litigation. Participants will also learn report writing, effective interviewing techniques, and how to record witness statements.
Additionally, the class will feature insights from three subject matter experts: one covering FMCSA regulations and post-accident drug/alcohol testing, another focusing on crash investigations, truck maintenance records, brake issues, and preventing Nuclear Verdicts, and an attorney discussing retainer agreements, attorney/client privilege, and preparing drivers for depositions.
Attendees will receive a printed manual and accident investigation checklist, along with breakfast and lunch. Registration is $319 for OTA members and $469 for non-members.
