The landscape of regulated industry drug testing has undergone a revolutionary transformation, courtesy of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). In 2023, the DOT introduced a game-changing final rule, ushering in the era of oral fluid testing.

This paradigm shift empowers employers with a unique choice, introducing unprecedented flexibility to drug testing methods. Now, employers can opt for the traditional reliability of urine testing or embrace the cutting-edge technology of oral fluid tests. However, there's a crucial detail to consider. Employers keen on implementing oral fluid testing must patiently await the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to certify two laboratories capable of processing these tests. The anticipation is building, with HHS expected to announce its selection by March 2024.
