Software Development Manager

Bessemer Management is a transportation organization comprised of a family of 5 logistics/trucking companies with 90+ years of experience operating in multi-faceted transportation modes. We are a dynamic and growing organization. We are looking for a dynamic, career-minded individual to join us as our full-time, on-site Manager of Software Development in our Cleveland, Ohio office.

In this high-impact leadership role, you will oversee the design, development, and delivery of modern web and desktop applications that support our internal operations and logistics platforms. You will manage a team of 7 developers and collaborate closely with our support staff and systems architects to ensure alignment with business goals and technical standards. This role is ideal for a seasoned technical leader who combines hands-on development expertise with strong people management skills. You’ll be responsible for mentoring developers, driving architectural decisions, and ensuring the team delivers scalable, maintainable, and high-quality software solutions. Responsibilities: 

  • Lead and manage a team of .NET, OpenEdge, and front-end developers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. 
  • Oversee the development of internal Windows and web applications using .NET 8.0 and ReactJS. 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical specifications and development plans. 
  • Guide architectural decisions and ensure adherence to best practices, including SOLID principles and dependency injection. 
  • Conduct code reviews, provide technical mentorship, and support professional development of team members.
  • Manage project timelines, resource allocation, and delivery milestones. 
  • Ensure quality assurance through testing strategies, debugging, and deployment pipelines. 
  • Partner with systems architects and IT leadership to align development efforts with infrastructure and security standards. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field preferred. 
  • 7+ years of experience in .NET development, including recent experience with .NET 8.0 and C#.
  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership or management role within a software development team. 
  • Strong full-stack development background, including Windows and web applications. 
  • Proficiency in JavaScript and modern front-end frameworks (e.g., ReactJS). 
  • Experience with Azure DevOps, Git, CI/CD pipelines, and agile methodologies. 
  • Experience with SQL Server and SSRS, OAuth with Entra, and Azure App Insights. 
  • Deep understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and development best practices. 
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.

Physical Demands of the Position: 
Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to stand, walk, and sit; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; and reach with hands and arms to lift and carry items up to 25 pounds.
